I had a couple of old Oris movements lying around from which to salvage a pallet pin as you do! Undeterred, they continued to refine their best pin lever movements, eventually rivaling the precision watches of the day, and even obtained a number of C. With the movement up and running, I relumed the hands, replaced the crystal and the watch looked like new again, both inside and out. September 29, in Ladies Tags: Oris Comments Off on Oris Cal. Click pictures to enlarge Working on this one was a real treat, no calendars or automatic winding complications to deal with. Luckily, I managed to source a replacement and it was straightforward from there. I thought about replacing the crown with something a bit more modern but decided to leave it as original as possible.

Ilya Ryvin — Sinn This was a bit of a tough one to figure out, but I think I can safely say the star of was my Sinn I could happily wear it any day of the week, and I often do. The Seiko Turtle reissue also allows me to wear a vintage-inspired piece without paying the inflated price for the actual vintage model.

It also gained a handset partially reminiscent of a watch introduced only a year before: The Seiko features a stainless steel case with screw-down crown and case back. I noted the screw-down crown and unlike its predecessor, this crown has some serious size.
The knurls of the crown are actually completely flush with the case at the, roughly, 4: The extension past the case, and the large crown size in general, add visual mass.
The Watches We Wore the Most in 2017
Have you ever wondered when your watch rolled off the assembly line at the factory? In other words, when was it manufactured? Questions relating to the production date of Seikos frequently pop up in various watch forums from time to time. And if you have that knowledge, you have an edge over the seller that could be very useful. Especially when it comes to bargaining for a better price for that new, old stock NOS Seiko that caught your fancy. File photo of a typical watch store in Kuala Lumpur.

April 18, in Chronograph Tags: Fast forward a decade or so and Breitling released the first version of the watch in this post, the Superocean Ref. The main differences between the two versions are that the early model has no running seconds subdial and has a plain diving bezel rather than the yachting bezel found on the later model. As you can see in the first picture, the watch in this post arrived in pretty poor condition.
Once out of the case, judging by the condition of the dial and the missing lume, it was clear that the watch had also had some moisture in it at some time. Inside the watch is a Valjoux cal. Like the Venus used in the early model, the caliber in this watch was again modified specifically for the Breitling Ref The hairspring was broken, a part of the diving timer was missing and the pusher tab on the operating lever had broken off.
All of these items would need to be replaced. A recessed area has been cut into the mainplate to incorporate the timer state indicator. When the dial is in place the indicator underneath shows one of three states depending on the current operation of the timer; running, stopped or reset. The indicator is moved back and forth between states by a modified chronograph hammer on the going side of the movement.

There are several watch companies that also produce homage Submariner watches. Basically a homage watch borrows some design influences from the original watch without infringing on copyright and trademarks of the patent holder.
To the untrained eye, both the Orient and the Rolex appear similar but there are subtle variations in detail between the two. For the rest of this review I will enclose the term “Submariner” in quotes to denote a homage Submariner.
